Biography

NOTE: Family name incorrectly transcribed on official Embarkation Roll. NAA Service Record verifies the correct spelling on Family name is SHARRAD. Died after accidental bomb wound to shoulder & thigh at Bazentine-le-Petit, during bomb throwing practice.

"THE LATE PRIVATE W. J. SHARRAD.

Private Walter John Sharrad, who enlisted from Arthurton on March 20, 1916, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sharrad, Arthurton. He saw two months' active service in France, where he died of wounds on February 14. He was only 19 years and 4 months old. He was a member of St. Peter's Church of England, Winulta, and was a model son. He was a member of the Arthurton football and cricket clubs, of which his father has been the president for many years.
